Every child in Hawai‘i and Micronesia can have the ability to achieve success in reading and in life. Bess Press’ supplemental curriculum materials were designed to meet the diversified needs of Hawai‘i's schools and the greater Pacific's learning environments.

The Island Readers series is classroom tested and standards aligned to assist all students, from nonreaders and struggling students, to grade-level achievers. The content and themes have been developed by educators and native speakers to be culturally and developmentally appropriate.

41 Years of Publishing for Hawaiʻi

Since 1979, the Bess Press has produced over 300 books related to Hawaiʻi and the greater Pacific. Bess Press began publishing Hawaiian Studies curriculum textbooks and supplemental materials. General Catalog

The complete catalog contains all the books and materials published and distributed by Bess Press. Publications include such genres as children's literature, biographies/memoirs, pidgin, Hawaiian language, guides, gift books and maps.

Hawaiian Studies

Begins with early childhood publications and continues through to university texts. The core of our Hawaiian Studies publications focus on content and curriculum covering ancient Hawaiʻi, the Hawaiian monarchy, and the modern history of Hawaiʻi.

Pacific Island Studies

Our Pacific Island Studies catalog contains materials covering the geography, migrations, histories, and economies that make up the Pacific region. All publications are focused at a K-12 and post-secondary demographic.
