Every child in Hawai‘i and Micronesia can have the ability to achieve success in reading and in life. Bess Press’ supplemental curriculum materials were designed to meet the diversified needs of Hawai‘i's schools and the greater Pacific's learning environments.
The Island Readers series is classroom tested and standards aligned to assist all students, from nonreaders and struggling students, to grade-level achievers. The content and themes have been developed by educators and native speakers to be culturally and developmentally appropriate.

Since 1979, the Bess Press has produced over 300 books related to Hawaiʻi and the greater Pacific. Bess Press began publishing Hawaiian Studies curriculum textbooks and supplemental materials.
